Concept Development and Design Brief
The process typically starts with a design brief: inspiration references, brand guidelines, color palette direction, and any technical constraints like traffic zones or fire code requirements. The more specific this brief is at the outset, the fewer revision rounds are typically needed later in the process.
Digital Rendering and Color Matching
Designers usually work with digital renderings during early concept review, but digital colors don’t always translate exactly to dyed fiber. Reputable manufacturers flag this early and move to physical color references, such as yarn or fiber swatches, before finalizing a design, rather than relying on screen colors through to final approval.
Sample Weaving and Approval
Before full production, a physical sample of the custom pattern is woven so the design can be evaluated in real material, texture, and lighting conditions. This stage often reveals details, like how a fine pattern element reads at actual pile height, that aren’t obvious from a rendering, making it a genuinely important checkpoint rather than a formality.
Production, Quality Control, and Shipping
Once a sample is approved, full production begins, followed by quality control checks against the approved sample before the order ships. Clear communication about production status and any deviations from the approved sample protects both the buyer and manufacturer from misaligned expectations at delivery.
